What is Alateen?
Alateen is a fellowship of teenagers whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. It is part of the Al-Anon Family Groups, and its purpose is to help young people recover from the effects of a problem drinker in their lives.

We learn that:
- We can detach ourselves emotionally from the drinker’s problems while continuing to love the person.
- We are not the cause of anyone else’s drinking or behavior.
- We cannot change or control anyone but ourselves.
We come together to:
- Share experience, strength and hope with each other
- Discuss our difficulties
- Encourage one another
- Help each other understand the principles of the Al-Anon/Alateen program
- Learn how to use Alateen’s Twelve Steps and Twelve Tradition
